Senior Accountant

Purpose of the Role

 

To take a senior role in the business services team in preparing accounts and tax returns for small & medium clients and to provide assistance to the Manager and Partner in the preparation of accounts and tax returns for large clients. The turnover of the clients range from $250,000 to $100 million.

 

Responsibilities

 

The key responsibilities of the Senior I Business Services Accountant role include:

  • Preparation of accounts & tax returns to final stage, compliance where appropriate with all accounting standards.

  • Supervision and training intermediates and junior staff

  • Handle GST obligations for clients where necessary
  • Provide simple to moderate level tax advice where appropriate
  • Compliance obligations, payroll tax, land tax, fringe benefit tax, stamp duty & A.S.I.C. requirements

 

 

The Client Base

The current portfolio of clients has a fee base of $1.8 million and includes a range of businesses, including:

  • Manufacturing

  • Retail

  • Professional Services

 

 

Requirements

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate good verbal & written communication skills, have the foundations to build technical knowledge, and want to be a team player.  They will be self-motivated, have the ability to think on their own and be prepared where necessary to meet client/statutory deadlines.

 

The successful candidate will be a graduate with a minimum of 4 years experience in a medium sized firm working in business services. They will have demonstrated stability of employment and have good results in their university studies. They are probably completing their CA program.

·       Being flexible and prepared to work later when required to reach deadlines 

 

The senior II accountant should have skill levels of the following systems as indicated:

 
     
·       Excel & Word - HIGH

 

Knowledge of the following would be advantageous:

      
        ·       Solution 6
     
·       CRS -
     
·       MYOB/quicken/quickbooks

 

Qualifications

 

The Senior II Accountant will be a Graduate or undergraduate of either:

 
        ·       Bachelor of commerce; or
        ·       Bachelor of economics; or
        ·       Bachelor of accounting/finance

 

The prospects for a Senior I to move within the firm are available providing they demonstrate their potential in their current role; the next step to Senior I is Supervisor within their area.
