ESV Partner Attends TAG Alliance International Conference in Hong Kong

27.10.14

From the 19th to the 23rd of October, Kurt Baker attended the international conference of the TAG Alliances in Hong Kong.  As one of the founding members of The International Accounting Group® (TIAG®), ESV regularly attends these international conferences to gain valuable insight into global commercial, business and taxation issues.

The conferences are also an important forum to build upon the strong relationships with other accounting firms within TIAG and its affiliate alliances TAGLaw and TAG-SP™.  Together, these alliances are known collectively as the TAG Alliances™.  In total, member firms from 35 different countries were represented at the conference.

The conference comprised various networking opportunities and group breakout sessions, as well as a variety of informative and educational sessions aimed at firm and practice development. Specific sessions and speakers during the conference included:

  • TAG Alliances Asia Pacific Regional Meeting including a presentation on the ASEAN Free Trade Agreement and its impact on member firms
  • "China and International Trade: What's Ahead" Victor Chu, Chairman, First Eastern Investment Group
  • "Kiss, Bow, or Shake Hands®: A Guide to Understanding Cultural Differences Around the World" Terri Morrison, Best-Selling Author of Kiss, Bow or Shake Hands®
  • "Navigating the Brave New World of Equity Capital Formation:  'Hot Issues' Worldwide IPO markets; Crowdfunding; Microlending; 'Simplified' Public Offerings" Moderator: Peter Sugar; Jaffe, Raitt, Heuer & Weiss, P.C. (Michigan, USA - TAGLaw)
  • "Doing Business Down Under" Kurt Baker, ESV Accounting & Business Advisors (Sydney NSW - TIAG)
  • "Doing Business in Asia: Spotlight on the Philippines" Edgardo Balois; Siguion Reyna, Montecillo & Ongsiako Law Offices (Philippines - TAGLaw)
  • "Can Professional Service Firms Survive in the 21st Century?" Howard Wilkinson, TIAG Advisory Board Member and Former Senior Partner of Mercer & Hole (London, England - TIAG)
  • "What You Need to Know: Taxation Issues in China" Russell Brown, Lehman Brown (Beijing & Shanghai, China - TIAG) and Peter Chen, Zhong Lun Law Firm (Shanghai, China - TAGLaw)

As a member of the TIAG Advisory Board, Kurt also participated in a Board Meeting prior to the main conference commencing.

Importantly, it was not all work and no play – attendees of the conference were treated to a Gala Dinner at the famous Aberdeen Marina Club as well as an evening at the Happy Valley Horse Track.  Several attendees including Kurt also took the opportunity to experience the real Hong Kong, its restaurants, markets and the current tensions of the “umbrella movement” democracy protests in Mong Kok.
